Museum Island
Pergamon Museum This large museum houses three separate museums within it: the Antikensammlung (Collection of Classical Antiquities), the Vorderasiatisches Museum (Museum of the Ancient Near East) and the Museum für Islamische Kunst (Museum of Islamic Art). Its cavernous spaces showcase the splendor of the huge Ancient World artifacts that have made the Pergamon famous.

Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) Heavily damaged during World War II, this three story museum has been extensively renovated and reopened in 2001. The grand staircases lead visitors into exhibits of paintings and sculptures from the 19th century and paintings from the German Romantic period. Artists on display here include the painters Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas, and the sculptor Auguste Rodin.

Altes Museum (Old Museum) This two story museum with its eighteen fluted ionic columns is intentionally modeled to allude tothe Roman Pantheon. The spacious, orderly façade showcases Greek, Roman and Egyptian art and sculptures inside. The ground floor is dedicated to the Greek and Roman art while the upper floor houses the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection.

Bode-Museum The Bode-Museum, newly reopened in 2006, is a striking sight as it seems to emerge from the river Spree. This domed beauty displays a collection of sculptures as well as the Numismatic Collection of coins and works from the Gemäldegalerie Collection.The Museum of Byzantine Art also housed in the Bode Museum has an extensive collection of Early Christian iconography, sculpture and ivory carvings – all found in the ancient Mediterranean region.
